Department of Geography

The Department of Geography was established in the year 2010 in Higher Secondary. Currently, this Department offers three years’ degree program B.A (Major) under the affiliation of Bodoland University, Kokrajhar since the year 2016 and as an elective subject to the higher secondary (H.S.) students under Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (ASHEC) since the inception of Department. However, B.A program was started in the year 2014 under Gauhati University, Guwahati. Presently, the Department has four members of faculties. The Department draws students from different parts of Assam. The study of geography helps to make a sense of current and historical events, whether of environmental, globalization, urbanization, economic, political, social importance. The subject is highly inter-disciplinary, particularly with the introduction of applied geography and the emergence of GIS, aerial photography. The Department has well-equipped laboratories to conduct practical classes for various courses. The Department also maintains balance theory, practical and project work. As a part of the syllabus, students have to visit the field study to get an overview of knowledge which makes the students more confident and responsible person. The main objective of the program is to enable to know the students in mapping, theoretical and practical skills and making them more capable of understanding contemporary challenges.
